During my winter break in 2021, I worked as a student researcher at MIT Media Lab to develop "Saving Face": a suite of easily scaled technologies to help people fight the pandemic by warning them when they’re about to touch their faces. My team worked on creating a mobile app that uses a SONAR-inspired approach to measure the distance between hands and face and warns the user with an alarm when they get too close. This technique transmits an ultrasound signal from earbuds receives it with a microphone near the face. My job was to design and enhance the UI, user manual and visual materials for the app. I also cooperated with product researchers to enhance product justification, incorporating detailed written instructions, graphics, and videos and published online.
